TOUCH, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance

About Us

Touch, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance drives the collaborative efforts of patients, survivors, advocates, advocacy organizations, health care professionals, researchers, and pharmaceutical companies to work collectively and with accountability to advance the science towards the common goal of eradicating Black Breast Cancer. Stop by our booth to learn about our When We Tri(al) Movement to increase the participation of Black women in clinical trial research. (whenwetrial.org) Black women are 41% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women. Black women with breast cancer have: • a 41% higher mortality rate than White women • a 39% higher recurrence rate than White women • a 71% higher relative risk of death TOUCH recently launched an innovative grass roots patient outreach Movement called When We Tri(al). This Movement is dedicated to empowering and educating Black women on the importance of clinical trial participation. The When We Tri(al) movement: • Acknowledges earned mistrust in medical research and re-establish trust. • Dispels myths about clinical trial research and educate around the basics and benefits of research. • Empowers Black breast cancer patients to advocate for themselves. TOUCH aims to change the devastating breast cancer mortality rates for Black women as the consequences are dire. Too many Black women are missing out on access to newly emerging and often life-extending treatments. Until more Black women are included in the research, they will continue to face worse breast cancer outcomes. When We Tri(al) is focused on the urgent need to end these disparities.
